Every trick starts with a PoP!
G'day - my name's Tay!
I started roller skating in December 2020, I bought my first pair of skates from an ad on Facebook! A friend and I went to a local basketball court to give it a go! I instantly fell in love with roller skating and went straight onto YouTube to learn more! Before I knew it, I was skating at my local skate park in Baulkham Hills, learning how to set up my skates for slides, grinds, flips and bowl flow!
I met so many incredible people and made loads of new friends who I learnt a lot from!
My favourite trick would have to be aerials (front flip 180). The feeling of weightlessness, speed and landing on 8 wheels fills my heart with so much joy! The trick I struggle with the most are 360's (I know, crazy right?)
I definitely feel more comfortable rotating upside down than I do spinning, but I'm always growing and learning every single time I put my skates on!
I share a lot of my skating on Instagram where I share my wins, my fails but most of all my journey with rollerskating. I share tutorials and try to help as many people as I can to feel the same joy I felt that day when I first put on my skates and became so hungry for knowledge and learning!
And now I'm so excited to be taking it a step further with PoP! skate school, to share my knowledge with the future generation of roller skaters!
A little bit about me outside of roller skating, I'm 29 years old, I work full time as a truck and dog driver hauling dirt around Sydney with my dingo Tessa.
I have a passion for adventure and love to spend my time outdoors! Or crafting new things with crochet!
I can't wait to meet you all and see you smash some roller skating goals!!
Hey there!
My name's Aidan Johnson, I'm currently 21, and I've been skating for about 5 years. My personal favourite trick is a backside flip (they're beautiful if you haven't seen one before). My favourite thing to skate would be stairs, gaps, or down rails - I love that feeling of clearing something or a smooth boardslide. I normally head out for a skate with 3 or 4 mates and love checking out new skate parks or spots. I'm still progressing as a skater and have loads to learn myself, but I've always loved seeing new people join the scene. When someone has that dedication, drive, and love for skating, it reminds me why I love the sport and its community so much. I also love snowboarding and planning on having a few road trips to the snow for the 2023 season. Wish I could say I surf too, but that one's in progress. I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Business Analytics at Macquarie University when I'm not down at the skatepark! I grew up in a small coastal town called Tuross Head and moved into Sydney in 2015. I love traveling and got super lucky, getting out to Europe in January - February of 2020 before all the lockdowns. I'm super keen to meet you all and help you with your progression in skateboarding!
Hi all!
My name is Alex Bezkorovainy and I’m a coach for PoP! Skate School. I’ve been skating for almost two years now and began skating in the parking garage of the unit I was living in at the time. My favourite trick has to be a ghetto bird (hardflip, backside 180 revert) because when it’s done right it looks incredible. Anything switch or nollie is fun though, the feeling of landing a trick in your non-dominant stance is amazing if not uncomfortable. I don’t really have a local because I love skating flatground at home, but both Cherrybrook and Carlingford skatepark have such positive communities which encourage skaters of all levels to just have a good time.
In my spare time I’m an avid gamer (Zelda is my favourite franchise) and I love to spend time with family and friends.
Learning to skate not only encourages you to push yourself and improve, it also provides connections to both the community and friends alike. It’s a sport like no other in the sense that it brings people together to form a fun, encouraging environment, hence why it’s drawn me in.
I’m continually trying to learn new tricks and push myself and I can’t wait to see you guys down at the park doing the same!
Hey everyone!
My name is Nathan Hayes, I am 21 years old and I have been skating for roughly 6 years. My favourite trick has to be a varial kick flip simply because I love the feeling. I first started skating around my driveway at home and I recall spending countless hours holding onto my letterbox trying to learn kickflips. The feelings of joy and the sense of accomplishment from finally landing one was surreal and kicked off my love for skateboarding. Outside of skateboarding I enjoy hanging out with mates at the snow, beach or in the garage tinkering away on our cars.
I find skating at Cherrybrook very inclusive and there are always tips, tricks and encouragement being shared amongst new and seasoned skaters making it an ideal environment to get comfortable and progress. I have always loved seeing the excitement of someone landing a new trick and I am keen for you to get to experience this!
Hey all
I’m Jack and I’m teaching with PoP! Skate School! I’ve been skating for about 6 years now, and I love the environment down at Cherrybrook Skatepark. I’ve always felt welcomed and had a sense of community, even when I was younger. My favourite trick has to be a front smith grind through a pocket or curved ledge/rail. That feeling of leaning through the corner and popping out is unmatched. When I’m not skating I'm either hanging out with mates, going snowboarding, or going camping. Skateboarding has always been a big part of my life and I’m really excited to be able to share my love for it with you guys, and help you develop your skills as a skateboarder!
Hey all!
I’m Brandon and I coach for PoP! Skate School. I’m originally from Brisbane where I started skating in my driveway and at the local park. I’ve been skating here locally at Cherrybrook for about 8 years now and absolutely love the community that has evolved. It has always been very inclusive and fun-driven down here at Cherrybrook skatepark. I’ve regularly enjoyed spending time with the younger kids to help them progress their skateboarding and feel included within the more established community.
My favourite trick is the frontside boardslide, I just love that feeling of being all twisted up on the rail and sliding semi-blindly. It just feels really nice and I’d love to teach it to you!
Outside of skateboarding I gravitate towards anything outdoor related. I love to snowboard, camp & hike and in my eyes any day spent outside being active with friends is a great day.
To me, skateboarding has always been much more than the actual act of skating. It has been about community, resilience, fun and friendships. Skateboarding has been a portal to pure joy and given me friendships that I will cherish forever.
I look forward to seeing you guys down here soon for a skate!
